The legendary singer's statement came shortly after a district judge ordered that the arts institution must provide at least 30 days' notice before making any physical alterations or undertaking demolition. The dispute escalated after Trump appointed himself board chair, attempted to rename the venue the Trump-Kennedy Center, and subsequently announced its immediate closure for major renovations after a court ordered his name removed from the façade.
Streisand accused Trump of acting out of an unchecked ego, contrasting his actions with John F. Kennedy's founding vision of the institution as a celebration of artistic freedom and democracy. Concluding her message, the 84-year-old performer, who received a Kennedy Center Honour in 2008, urged Americans to vote in the upcoming November midterm elections.
